If you have a diaphragm priming/transfer pump, which it sounds like if you have a lever, the pump only has resistance when pulling against a vacuum, or when fuel is moving. Once it pumps up to pressure, the diaphragm is held away from the lever and the lever only moves the tiny spring on the side of the pump. Like Ken said, there will be a primer bulb in the fuel line, there should also be a bleed valve on the injector pump. Open this and pump the hand primer, fuel should flow back to the fuel tank and the lines should be purged of any air. There will be air in the lines to the injectors but that will purge its self.
