I just recently got a 03 New Holland LS180 and popped a hose, and lost all my hydro fluid. So I drained the rest . My M-600 manual states type"A" automatic transmission fluid or Dexron fluid. That stuff is expensive (/qt. = 0), and I need 20 gallons to replace the very old thin black stuff in there at the moment. I was going to treat my Bobcat to a new filter and fluid transfusion, but may have to take out a second mortgage to do so.
My question is about hydraulic fluid, does anyone have a preference as to what type I should get? I am sure the manual will point me to an obsolete type. Does anyone know roughly how much to buy? I just bought a L555 that has been neglected somewhat and I want to catch her up. I ordered a service manual. Never owned a skid before so I am a newbie.. My 1999 Lx665 manual recommends diesel rated 10w30 motor oil in both the engine and hydraulic system. I bought the machine used and was told that the hydraulic system was likely filled with "hydraulic fluid" (no type mentioned) since they use it in most all their heavy equip. Northern tool sells 10w30 multipurpose hydraulic oil in bulk. I need to change mine and flush the system so this more than likely won't stay in the machine longer than a couple hrs.
