The latest is a thumb for my 1.5 tonne mini-excavator. (Any of you wanting to see it can have a look under photo section). After browsing search history form many late nights and plagerising ideas, I came up with this design. It's really handy because when you need the thumb for a boulder or log, it's already there. You might want to try digging with it if it doesn't get in the way. Since yours is rigid, it might, but it's worth a try. Hyd thumb is really nice, but that will get the job done at a fraction of the cost. Also love the pictures, great to see other parts of the world and what projects people are doing. Buy a kit from an auction, if you goof up and build one too small you'll break something. My Dad built his thumbs for his Komatsu PC60 many years ago, the kind with a separate hinge pin and they are crap. A good thumb will use the main bucket pin as the pivot, stronger than the other cheap-o types.
