Before purchasing I demoed a Bobcat MT55 as well as the Ditchwitch. I would suggest doing the same if you can. I found the lack of a free-standing platform (not one that has a wheel under it) and the slow reverse speed on the Bobcat inferior to the Ditchwitch. I agree. Our first skid was a 94 mustang. Still have it but pulling 24 hrs with no heat or cab or radio doing snow was miserable. Now in the 07 gehl with heat wipers cig lighter and door I'm like a king and have billed out 46 hours work in 48! I don't tun the door unless its the winter though. No AC and i think it slows me down grtting in and out. For about 3k extra, at leas with Bobcat or CAt, you can ge AC and Heat. Not only will you be more comfy but it will be better on resale since the trend is towards comfort. There are some self enclosed vinyl kits. For Bobcat, you can make plexiglass windows and build a door from scratch but you will spend 1k easily.

I have towed a bobcat skid steer behind my 1500 Avalanche with no problems whatsoever. The guy who loaned my the bobcat tows it - not often but at times - with his Ford Explored sport trac. Day to day towing, a 3500 dually would be the way to go, but for one short trip from the rental place to your house and back, I see no problem. I justify Bobcat as having the strongest dealer network because they have been in the game the longest and they have the most skid steer/ctl dealers out there. Caterpillar, John Deere, and Case also have strong dealers but most that I have seen would rather be selling and servicing the large iron. I'm sitting on a 94 Bobcat 753 with a Kubota diesel at 10,673 hours- Just replaced a hose -the worst hose to have to replace, in six hours and two hundred smackers. Not mentioning the beer- just the hose and oils and filters. I am looking at purchasing a larger machine. Currently looking at a Bobcat S300 and a Cat 268B. I will have to special order in either machine because of the options I want. I have the opportunity to order the 2 speed option. In a nutshell, it will increase the top speed from 7 MPH to 11-12 MPH. It's approximately a ,800 add-on to either machine.

When your machine does decide to roll off the trailer or something happens its going to take the truck and trailer with it causing more damage. There was a accident a few years ago a guy pulling a 6000lb bobcat on a tandem axle trailer behind a F-250. The skid steer never broke off the trailer but it twisted the reach right off the trailer. Yes keep the weight in the back loading. My Bobcat 743 gets way light in the front with forks on it. For the genius that flipped the Cat it takes lots of talent to flip a track machine. Flipping an older wheel machine is one thing but flipping a track takes practice also the weight was obviously in the rear with the front forks and no bucket.
